The Blight

Core Lore · The Corruption

The blight is the parasitic force at the heart of Beast of Reincarnation — infecting plants, animals and people, creating the malefacts, and defining Emma's existence.

A parasitic force that twists everything it touches.

Everything in Beast of Reincarnation flows from one thing: the blight. It is the parasitic force that ended the old world and shapes the one you explore — and it’s worth understanding before anything else.

What the blight does

The blight infects plants, animals and other living beings, transforming them into the dangerous creatures called malefacts. It doesn’t discriminate: beast, person or even technology can be twisted by it. Its spread is what drove humanity into isolated colonies and what keeps the wasteland lethal.

Emma and the blight

For Emma the corruption is intimate. She is a Blightborn, born already corrupted, her body fused with plant life — the origin of her vine-like hair. As a Sealer, she fights the blight by absorbing it into herself, sealing the corruption of every malefact she defeats. That makes the blight both her power and her peril: the more she seals, the more she carries. Read how that works in Sealing the Blight.

A single source

Crucially, the blight isn’t framed as a random catastrophe. Reporting points to a single origin at the centre of the disaster — the Beast of Reincarnation itself, the source from which the corruption spreads. Confronting that source is the implied destination of Emma’s journey.
